Sporting Activities at St. Joseph's

At St. Joseph's Technical Institute Kisubi, we believe sports has the power to provide universal framework for learning values, thus contributing to the development of soft skills needed for responsible citizenship.

SPORTS
Sports Development at St. Joseph's

The institute like many other institutions of learning, it is a natural entry-point to trigger transformative behavioural shifts related to health life styles. Sports is particularly key to youth development. Physical education, physical activity and sports in general, contribute to the development of soft skills and impart values such as teamwork, solidarity and respect, all of which are crucial to building peaceful and cohesive societies.

Sport is social capital because it is associated with an array of internationally shared values, such as voluntarism, citizenship, democracy, community wellbeing, trust, intercultural knowledge and social network.

Sport is much more than the games we see on TV. It is a universal language that is woven deeply into our society and touches nearly every aspect of our lives. Now more than ever, sport is a common thread that unites people of all cultures across the globe.

Sport and physical education motivates our students to attend and engage in institute academic programmes as well as improve academic performance and learning outcomes.

The potential to reach developmental goals such as education, violence prevention, good governance, gender equality, promotion of health as well as environmental awareness through sport is an area that we need to exploit.

Sports is a learning experience. Of all who take sports, only one may eventually become a champion, but definitely all will be winners. Sports has helped me and the principles of sports continue to help me through difficult times.

Due to those endless benefits of sports, that's why St. Joseph's Technical Institute Kisubi makes games and sports stand out among the extra curricular activities and its programmes run on a daily basis throughout the year.

The role of the institute is to support the cause through provision of materials, equipment, technical support, welfare for a conducive sporting environment.

STAFF INVOLVEMENT

Staff involvement means school staff and out-of-school time program leaders are physically active with students, provide opportunities for students to be active, and engage in activities in the school that support physical activity. School staff can be positive role models for students by being physically active in and out of school.

Staff members can support recess, clubs, intramural programs, and other physical activity offerings. School staff also can be involved in school employee wellness programs, which help improve staff health and increase physical activity levels.

Staff involvement in physical activity benefits students by encouraging them to be physically active before, during, and after the school day. That is why at St. Joseph's Technical Institute Kisubi, staff members are encouraged to be involved at any level in all sports programs including physical participation.

AWARDS

There are many good reasons to present awards for outstanding achievement for our sports students and staff.

An awards ceremony makes people feel that their work is valued. It shows approval and gratitude for each person's good job and it makes people aware that good work will be rewarded. It shows others, such as the general public and other staff members, that you are aware of outstanding accomplishments. Recognition motivates others to strive for excellence and we all benefit from it.

Recognition motivates people. For instance if a sports participant receives an award for an outstanding performance in a competition, other participants will strive to do better also, so that they can too be recognised. Being awarded for doing well is one of the biggest incentives any one can receive not only in sports but also real working life.

An awards ceremony or activity is a chance for celebration and reflection. People will get a break and a party, getting their minds away from everyday work, allowing them to see the bigger picture. At the same time, they will have the chance to discuss the importance of their work and the importance of their work and the achievement of the person being awarded, gathering and sharing experience is a very powerful means of encouragement.
